Pack 302 Campout Checklist

While Scouts generally know what they should bring on a campout, a checklist can be useful in minimizing things that get forgotten.

Carry-on Gear (in small day pack or fanny pack)
  • Small flashlight (no bigger than 2 D cells) or headlamp
  • Rain Gear (poncho at a minimum, rain jacket and pants recommended)
  • Money if needed for a fast food stop
  • Boots are recommended for cold weather and hiking.

Camping Gear
  • Spare batteries
  • Sleeping Bag (packed in plastic bag preferably inside a stuff sack)
  • Thermarest or sleeping pad
  • Water Bottle (full)
  • Tent
  • Cub Scout Handbook (in plastic bag) plus a pen
  • Pocket Knife (after earning Wittling Chip)
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste, small soap
  • Camping or regular towel
  • Bandana
  • Watch

Clothes
(packed in plastic zip-lock style bags, don’t put all items of one type in the same bag)
  • Scout uniform, with neckerchief, slide and hat (as available)
  • Underwear, one per day, plus one extra
  • Socks, one pair per day, plus one extra.  For cold weather bring warm socks (preferably wool or polyester, not cotton).  For hiking, liner socks are great.
  • T-shirts, one per day, plus one extra
  • One pair of shorts (except in very cold weather)
  • One pair of long pants
  • Hat – baseball or brim style
  • Extra pair of shoes, tennis shoes are ok
  • Sleeping clothes

Cold Weather Add-ons
  • Hat – stocking type or balaclava
  • Long Underwear, top and bottom
  • Gloves, non-cotton, preferable water resistant
  • Warm Coat
  • Fleece pull over

Optional Items (as appropriate for the event)
  • Camp chair
  • Swim Suit
  • Gloves, non-cotton, preferable water resistant
  • Sleeping bag should be rated at least 20 degrees
  • Compass and whistle
  • Insect Repellant
  • Sun Screen
  • Pillow

What NOT to Bring
  • Electronic Games, CD/MP3 Players
  • Anything expensive or irreplaceable
  • Magic, D&D, or other role playing games
  • Sheath knives or any knife with a blade > 3”
